Social Networking: A Tool for Self-Promotion?

Apr 2nd, 2010

If you are not on Facebook, you fundamentally don’t even exist, an acquaintance has told me some time ago. I am now starting to believe them. Social network sites give you an understanding into what your friends and work mates are doing. Keeping in touch is nearly hopeless without these websites.

Though don’t just think of these websites as a way of keeping up to date about the lives of friends. Another use of social websites is promoting yourself and drawing in business especially if you are a real estate agent. The times when a billboard or a tiny advertisement in a newspaper was enough for propagation of one’s work or business are long defunct and they will won’t come back. Using and publicizing on the internet is now the way to go with the times. If you browse the internet, you will find lots of articles with hints on how to use, and promote yourself, on social networking sites.

For older individuals who were not brought up with computers, it’s difficult to get used to using computers and to find their way round websites. For the older generation it is going to take time to learn, whereas children seem to know how to do it naturally. We stick with it and try our best to study it all. I surmise lots of of my fellow realtors have the same thoughts.

After working all day its not surprising we come home tired, so it’s difficult to sum up the energy to find interesting things to talk about on blogs or make posts on social websites such as facebook and twitter. It evolved into a part of our daily routine. Chilling out now means going on-line to get our social networking job finished. Is there people out there that are fascinated in our articles? Do individuals, other than fellow realtors, actually look at the articles we write? I guess we will never know for definite, will we?

I actually do examine the websites of my fellow real estate associates and I do read the articles they write, because the topics are of interest. Are these articles of any interest to individuals not involved in the housing market, that I can’t answer. By perusing colleagues blogs and websites, it doesn’t matter how often I see them, I am always up to date with their lives. I may truthfully state that thanks to social networking, I have gotten to know individuals I haven’t talked to for ages again. That sure is fantastic!

As a realtor I work with Toronto Condos, and I found social networking to be one of the key ways of attracting clients. Therefore I hope this short article did help you
