Parkway Drive is an Australian band from the beachfront town of Byron Bay. In 2003, the band members took the name of the street where they had their rehearsals and formed a band using the street’s name, which is a real street where they had their all night jam sessions in their laid back hometown.

The charismatic 5 band mates are anything but laid back. They have the ability to involve the crowd when they are playing their seriously hardcore metal music, even though they may have the deceiving look of a bunch of surfer boys. Their sound is among some of the heaviest metal, however.

This was released in August 2005 and the band revved up their notoriously frantic pace of performances and tours. Parkway Drive became a strong act as they performed for headlining shows around Australia and spread their wings to other countries as well. The touring has been the vehicle that they used to really crank up their fan base and visibility.

Current Parkway Drive band members

– Winston McCall – front man and vocals
– Ben Gordon – percussionist/drums
– Jeff Ling – guitarist
– Luke Kilpatrick – guitarist
– “Pipey” O’Connor – bass guitarist

In June, 2006, American record label, Epitaph Records signed the group and released the album “Killing with a Smile” to American audiences. On the Taste of Chaos Tour they played Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, and Saosin, which are favorites with the fans and part of their enormous success in the US. parkway drive merch enjoyed increased fan demand due to the tour appearances when they performed at the Homebake Festival, Soundwave Festival, Gravity G Festival, and Sound Fest during the August, 2006.

2007 brought continued good fortune when they played at Underworld and treated the public to the first live performance of “The Siren’s Song”. Parkway Drive was the only Australian group to be asked to participate in the 2007 US Vans Warped Tour. Their album, “Horizons” was finally released in October of 2007 and scored a 10/10 from Blunt Magazine. This metal album went straight to #6 on the ARIA charts upon its release and stayed in the top 40 for weeks.

The music on the “Horizon’s” album is constantly compared to Metallica’s own “Master of Puppets”. Drive was honored when they were the only Australian group chosen to appear on the US Vans Warped Tour in 2007.Brief Music Highlights Albums Killing with a Smile-2005 Horizons-2007 Music Videos and Singles Smoke ‘em if Ya got ‘em-2008 Boneyards.

2009 was kicked off in style when Parkway Drive announced in January that they would be headlining a US tour that included both Stick to Your Guns and MyChildren MyBride. Currently the band is in the midst of their cross-country tour. Parkway Driver merchandise including tees, posters and hoodies, are selling well as fans continue to show support for one of the heaviest of the new metal icons. 2 singles by the group getting a lot of current airplay include “Idols and Anchors” and “Romance is Dead”. “Carrion” and “Guns for Show, Knives for a Pro” also continue to attract a large number of downloads.

The reason for this rather pedestrian name, you ask? It’s simply the name of the street where they used to have jam sessions and pulled all nighters as they practiced the music they loved.

These 5 hardcore metal men became band mates that were serious about their music and their charisma gave them the uncanny ability to connect with every audience member. They might look like surfer boys, but they are heavy metal musicians that have become great performers.

In August, 2005, they released their first full-length album, “Killing with a Smile” which launched a frantic and rushed series of live performances and tours. Parkway Drive performed as an opening act in Australia and other countries. This allowed them to increase their popularity because of the visibility and they garnered more fans worldwide.

Parkway Drive band members currently include:

– Lead Vocalist Winston McCall
– Drummer and Percussionist Ben Gordon
– Lead guitarist Jeff Ling
– Rhythm guitarist Luke Kilpatrick
– Bass guitarist “Pipey” O’Connor

They started playing to American audiences in August of 2006 when Epitaph Records signed the group in June and then released “Killing with a Smile” to American fans. Enormous success for the group started in 2006 while on the Taste of Chaos Tour and their favorites like Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, and Saosin were part of the set. Parkway Drive merch sales thrived as fans wanted souvenirs of the tour appearances. The Homebake Festival, Soundwave Festival, Gravity G Festival, and Sound Fest, where the group played in the last 2 months of 2006, sealed their position as a fan favorite.

They played at Underworld in 2007 and unveiled the first live performance of “The Siren’s Song”. As the only Australian group invited to the 2007 US Van Warped Tour, Parkway Drive enjoyed continued success and their album, “Horizons” benefited when it scored 10/10 from Blunt Magazine with its October 2007 release. Going straight to #6 on the ARIA charts, the metal album stayed in the top 40 for weeks. The music is constantly compared to Metallica’s own “Master of Puppets”, but “Horizons” is original music that has made this group popular among fans on several continents. Part of that success can be attributed to Parkway Drive’s appearance at the US Van Warped Tour in 2007.
